Things to Do in Falls Church
Given the history and culture Falls Church has, not to mention the diverse atmosphere it now gives visitors, it is quite impossible to run out of interesting sights to see and fun things to do while in the city and its vicinity. Falls Church can give not just opportunities for learning through sight-seeing, but also modern-day activities like bowling and watching movies. Along with these are several events organized throughout the year by the City of Falls Church Council and various organizations in the city.
The first stop any tourist should go to is the Historic Falls Church, of course. It is, after all, where the town got its name from. There is the Cherry Hill Farmhouse and its barn, built in 1845 and a survivor of the Civil War's destructive forces. Now owned by the City Council, it still has its original period furniture and tools. Tinner Hill, once owned by the Tinner family, was where the first rural chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was established after the Civil War. A Historic Trail running through the city gives a “walking tour” of the Falls Church City historical sites, with informative kiosks as guides. Another attraction is the Eden Center, a tribute to Vietnamese and Chinese cultures, and home to the biggest Vietnamese shopping center in the Eastern United States.
Falls Church City has many wonderful parks complete with amenities like picnic areas, playgrounds for children and paths for biking and rollerblading. Collectively known as the City Parks, they have lush greenery, gorgeous trees and include parts of the Historical Trail, and serve both as relaxing and enjoyable spots.
Festivities abound for the visitor wishing to join in the Falls Church City frolics. There are the traditional events like the Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween Carnival, but unique festivals that anyone will enjoy include Civil War Day in May that showcases a re-enactment of the Civil War, Memorial Day Festival and Parade, Farmers Market featuring the local produce, Fall Festival and Taste of Falls Church with amusement rides and booths and “Watch Night” during New Year's Eve where the community celebrates New Year while engaging in all sorts of sponsored activities.
There's so much more going on in the city that visitors will certainly find themselves in the center of, experiencing the best of Falls Church in what will certainly be cherished memories.
